Nonfiction Text Structures #2: Cause and Effect

Nonfiction Text Structures #2: Cause and Effect

Cause and effect is a type of text structure that writers use to describe an event or several events (the cause) and the event or events that follow, or result (the effect). In this worksheet, children will learn to identify signal words and visuals that writers use when describing cause and effect in an informational text. They will then read a short passage about the California Gold Rush and complete a graphic organizer. Designed for fourth graders, this worksheet offers useful practice to prepare children as they learn to read and write nonfiction.

This worksheet is a companion to Nonfiction Text Structures #1: Compare and Contrast and Nonfiction Text Structures #3: Description.
