How do Colors Affect Mood?

Research Questions:

Have you ever wondered why people say “I feel so blue” or “I'm green with envy”, or “I am red with anger” when they don't actually turn those colors? It might have something to do with the mood the colors evoke.

  • Location: You will need to locate a place with rooms that are different colors.
  • Test subjects
  • Pen and paper for notes

Experimental Procedure:

  1. The most difficult part of this experiment is locating a place where the experiment can be conducted. You might locate rooms with different colors in your school, or perhaps use a photography studio with different colour backgrounds.
  2. Once you got that figured out, ask your test subject to sit in the the room and to tell you how they feel and what kind of feelings they get from the colour of the surroundings. Record this.
  3. Repeat the above step for all your test subjects with as many colors of the spectrum as possible.
  4. Evaluate your results. What are the trends you have noticed in your responses?
