Annalise Oertwich is a rising junior at Linfield College, studying Elementary Education. As an Alakan Native growing up in a small town in Oregon, she encountered racism and prejudice throughout her life which left her feeling unappreciated and underrepresented. Nonetheless, Annalise’s hard work and determination shaped her into the bright, passionate future teacher she is today. Annalise wants to become a teacher so she can improve equality in the school system and make sure that “all students feel welcome, appreciated, and heard.”

"This scholarship means that First Generation Alaskan Natives like me do belong in higher education and gives them hope that a college degree is possible, regardless of their financial situation or the colour of their skin. It gives me the drive to become a teacher so that I can keep pushing for representation and recognition for all students. I remember the feeling of being 'different' and an 'alien' among many people who were supposed to be my peers, and I never want any child to feel that way. I will never stop advocating for social justice and equity in education. I am so thankful for this scholarship and the impact it has had on my life."

Aline Pham

Summer 2019 Winner

Aline Pham is the very first winner of the From Classroom to Classroom Scholarship! She will be entering the University of California - Irvine as a freshman this year. Her interest in education started at a young age and grew with her experience as a tutor and a Model UN Instructor’s Aide. Her lifelong commitment to education will give her a head start in her career as a teacher.

“I would like to thank Education.com for this very generous scholarship, which will help me tremendously as an Education Sciences Major at UC Irvine. Although my dream has always been to become a teacher, aspiring educators do not always receive enough social or financial support to make their dreams a reality. Society seldom encourages children to pursue teaching, so I am incredibly thankful to this committee for playing that role. I have found a community that will support me as I step into my first classroom. To my fellow future teachers, I look forward to changing the world with you — one student at a time!”
