Students will be able to identify tools they have learned in the school year connected to mindfulness and social emotional learning.

(10 minutes)
  • Set up three stations prior to class (refer to the Creation Stations worksheet).
  • Join students together in a circle, seated or standing.
  • Tell students that they will be taking time to reflect and practise the various mindfulness and community-building tools they have learned this year.
  • Ask, "What are some things you have learned about mindfulness this year? What have you learned about emotional regulation?"
  • Write student responses on the board.
  • Ask, "What have you learned about caring for yourself? For others who may be different?"
  • Write student responses on the board.
  • Explain that even as they move into the summer and the next grade, they can still use and practise what they have learned!
(15 minutes)
  • Point to the the different stations around the room.
  • Play the "Cha Cha Slide" song and move around the room to point out the three stations.
  • Pause the music.
  • Explain that the class will "Cha Cha Slide" to each station.
  • Model for students how to complete each activity in each station (cha-cha sliding through each station). Show students how to practise mindfulness at the peace corner, build with play dough at the heartfulness station, and craft an "Including Others Bracelet" at the last station.
  • Explain that they will have 7–10 minutes at each station and that you will ring a bell at the end of their time to let them know to move to the next station.
(10 minutes)
  • Pass out the Creation Stations worksheet.
  • Ask one or two students to model and explain how to move through each station one more time.
  • Ask the class if they have questions.
  • Play the "Cha-Cha Slide" song and say, "Let's slide to the creation stations together!"
  • Move around the room, following the directions from the song, together.
  • Drop off students at each station.
  • Pause the music.
  • Ask students to take a few deep breaths.
  • Explain that they will have 7–10 minutes in their first station and that they may begin.
(30 minutes)
  • Move around the room to check for student comprehension at each station.
  • Ring the chime after 7–10 minutes.
  • Play the "Cha-Cha Slide" song, and ask students to slide and dance to their next station.
  • Repeat this until each station has been completed by all students.

Enrichment: Ask advanced students to write a song or rap connected to what they have learned from mindfulness and living in a caring and supportive community.

Support: Work one-on-one or in small groups with some students and provide support with the stations.

(5 minutes)
  • Walk around the room and check in with as many students as possible during station time. Provide support as needed and practise proximity with any students that seem off task.
(5 minutes)
  • Bring students back together in a circle.
  • Ask students to bring what they have made in their stations.
  • Ask students to turn to a partner to share what they have made with each other.
  • Ask, "When can you practise mindfulness on your own this summer?"
  • Ask, "How will you remember to practise mindfulness?"
  • Ask, "How will you remember to include others in community? What are some ways you can spread kindness in community?"
  • Explain to them they have done a great job learning and practising mindfulness, inclusion, and compassion in community!
