Thanksgiving Plate

First Grade Arts & crafts Activities: Thanksgiving Plate

What You Need:

  • White plate
  • Red food-safe porcelain paint marker
  • Orange food-safe porcelain paint marker
  • Brown food-safe porcelain paint marker
  • Oven
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Potholders

What You Do:

  1. Ask your child to write down their top six favorite things that they're most grateful for. Help them out a bit if they get stumped. Sometimes the best things, like healthy bodies and good friends, are taken for granted.
  2. Gather up the porcelain paint markers and see if your child can guess why we associate the colors red, orange and brown with fall.
  3. Preheat the oven to the temperature on the pack of markers.
  4. Help your child use a marker to write "Thanksgiving" on the top of the plate and "Plate" on the bottom.
  5. Let them draw a curved line from "Thanksgiving" to "Plate" and another one from "Plate" to "Thanksgiving" to create a border.
  6. Underneath "Thanksgiving," have your child write "I'm thankful for:"
  7. Have them use the markers to draw pictures on the plate of what they're grateful for.
  8. Ask them to label each picture.
  9. Once the oven has reached the correct temperature, put the plate in the oven to bake the ink on.
  10. Use potholders to remove the plate and let cool.
  11. While it's cooling off, talk to your child about why they're grateful for each thing on the plate.

At your Thanksgiving dinner, your child can show off their beautiful Thanksgiving plate to all their family and friends before covering it up with delicious food!
