Temporary Art

Third Grade Arts & crafts Activities: Temporary Art

What You Need:

  • Scenic outdoor spot
  • Natural art supplies: rocks, sticks, pine cones, flower petals, seeds, nuts, grass, leaves, driftwood, seaweed, etc.
  • Camera

What You Do:

  1. Spend some time appreciating your outdoor spot. Are you at a beach, a forest, or somewhere completely different? What does your child like best about their surroundings?
  2. Encourage your child to start hunting for natural art supplies. Remember, there are no rules. Anything from a dead tree branch to half a sea shell will work perfectly.
  3. Have your child arrange their natural art supplies on the ground.
  4. Help them brainstorm ideas for their artwork. Do they want to make their materials into something abstract or would they rather build a statuesque structure that looks like a family pet or friend?
  5. Let your child start making their masterpiece. Don't forget to remind them that they can go hunt for more materials as needed.
  6. Take a photo of your child's work. Since it's temporary art, a photo is the perfect way to remember what they created.
