Pumpkin Play Dough!

Kindergarten Math Activities: Pumpkin Play Dough!

What You Need:

  • 1 can of pumpkin puree (15 oz)

  • 2-3 cups of corn starch

  • 1-2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice

  • Glitter (gold or silver)

  • Cookie cutters, butter knives, and small plastic figurines

What You Do:

  1. Have your child mix the pumpkin puree, glitter, and the pumpkin spices in a bowl.

  2. Help your child add in the corn starch a half cup at a time, mixing as you add. Ask questions such as "Can you help me mix a half cup? How can you tell it is a half cup?"

  3. Invite your child to mix in the remaining Corn starchUntil the dough forms. Ask your child, “What do you notice about the texture of the dough as we add the corn starch?”

  4. Knead the dough on a hard surface using your hands.

  5. Encourage your child to create different things such as a pumpkin town, pumpkin person, pumpkin patch, or even pretend halloween treats!

Tip: If your dough becomes too sticky, add more corn starch. If your dough is too dry, add a little water.

When finished, set out cookie cutters, butter knives, and objects and let the playing begin
