Mosque Pictures

Second Grade Holidays Activities: Mosque Pictures

What You Need:

  • Images of mosques
  • Black construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Pencil
  • Glitter glue

What You Do:

  1. To start, take a look at images of mosques together. Explain to your kid that the onion-like bulbous shapes on top of mosques are called domes. The tall, thin towers, called minarets, offer a vantage point for the leader to call people to pray.
  2. Ask your child to use a pencil to draw out a mosque from her imagination, making sure that it has minarets and domes. She can also add arched doorways, a common feature found in mosques.
  3. Next, ask her where her mosque is and what the climate is like. Have her include parts of the environment around her mosque.
  4. Time to colour everything in! On dark paper the crayons appear vibrant as if it's nighttime. Suggest that she include a moon—the crescent moon is an important symbol of Ramadan, which starts with the sighting of the ninth month's crescent moon.
