Kids may cringe when you ask them to write a book report, but when you show them how to do one in a non-traditional way, like in an accordion-style timeline, they'll have much more fun expressing their creativity. During Black History Month, have your child read a biography about Martin Luther King, Jr. and then ask them to create a pictorial timeline depicting some of the major events in Dr. King's life. Your child will not only get great reading comprehension practise, but they'll also practise their writing strategies as they learns about the inspiring life of Dr. King.
