Bunny Mask

First Grade Holidays Activities: Bunny Mask

What You Need:

  • White poster board
  • Scissors
  • Pink felt
  • Sequins
  • Pencil
  • Cotton balls
  • White pipe cleaners
  • 2 small pink pom-poms
  • Glue stick
  • Low-temp glue gun
  • Hole punch
  • Elastic string

What You Do:

  1. On the bottom of a sheet of poster board, help your child measure out the basic size of her face, including where her eyes and nose are located.
  2. Ask her to draw two long ears coming out from the top of the mask, and rounded cheeks for the bottom of the mask.
  3. Have her cut the mask out of the poster board. Help her carefully cut out the eyes.
  4. Encourage her to cut out felt shapes for the inside of the ears.
  5. Help her create the bridge of the nose by cutting a long "V" shape from the remaining poster board and gluing it down the centre of the mask, from the forehead to the nose. (This will give the mask more structure and balance. It also helps with support.)
  6. Have her decorate the bridge of the nose with sequins.
  7. Encourage your child to fluff out the cotton balls and glue them to the bunny's cheeks.
  8. Cut down the pipe cleaners so they look like whiskers and supervise as she (or, have her watch you) uses the low-temp glue gun to glue them in place.
  9. Glue the pom-poms in the middle of the mask to create a nose.
  10. Punch holes on both sides of the mask and thread the elastic string through the holes.
  11. Help her fit the mask on her face and tie the elastic string so it's a comfortable fit.
  12. Cut off the excess elastic string.
  13. Encourage her to don the mask and create some Easter mischief.
