Kindergarten Reading & Writing Activities: I Am Thankful For...

What You Need:

  • Construction paper, multi-colored
  • Mini stapler
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Googly eye
  • Circular glass
  • Pencil
  • Marker

What You Do:

  1. Help your child cut four strips of paper to create the feathers for their turkey. The paper should be cut to about 1.5" x 8.5".
  2. Ask your child to trace the bottom of the glass using a pencil onto a sheet of brown paper, and again on a sheet of white paper. Have him cut out both circles.
  3. Help him draw a turkey head shape, which should look like a lightbulb.
  4. Then, he can draw and cut out the beak for his bird.
  5. Have him glue the turkey head in the centre of the brown circle.
  6. Glue on the googly eye and beak of the bird.
  7. Help him loop the paper strips and attach them to the top half of the brown circle using the stapler.
  8. Ask him to glue the brown circle to the centre of a sheet of construction paper.
  9. Now he should glue the white circle on top of the brown circle, which will help to hide the staples.
  10. Finally, ask him to write what he's the most thankful for this holiday season in the middle of the white circle.
